World Water Week 2021

August 27th, 2021

Water is the most abundant resource on the planet, covering 70% of our Earth’s surface, but did you know that only 3% is freshwater? And only 1% of that freshwater is actually available for human consumption? 1%!!  The rest is held in ice caps and glaciers, sequestered away in inaccessible groundwater aquifers, or sadly, too polluted to be used. This means that we have a massive, global responsibility to look after our water systems. By 2025, an estimated 1.8 billion people (a quarter of our global population) will be living in areas plagued by water scarcity, that’s only four years away!

Unfortunately, major drilling projects can have a massive impact on local freshwater resources. Drilling fluids are often comprised of bentonite clays which require a significant amount of freshwater to enable them to hydrate. At Clear Solutions we take environmental issues seriously, as such, we are proud to be able to offer our customers a fantastic freshwater-friendly alternative.

Pure-Bore® replaces bentonite’s functionality in a drilling fluid at a concentration 90% lower than the necessary equivalent of bentonite, not only does it require less water, it doesn’t require freshwater at all! Pure-Bore® performs incredibly well using seawater as an alternative, ensuring local freshwater reservoirs remain unaffected by drilling operations.

Sadly, it is often the people in poorer countries who are worst hit by water shortages, and it can be hard to remind ourselves that we all have a part to play in ensuring the fair and continued distribution of the world’s freshwater supply.

We have to do everything we can, and we have to do it now, to help preserve the Earth’s freshwater supply for future generations.
