Case Study
Pure-Bore® success in European geothermal project

A European operator drilling deep geothermal wells for district heating faced repeated fluid-related issues using a standard Potassium Carbonate/Xanthan/PAC system. Clear Solutions proposed a Pure-Bore®-based alternative, delivering significantly better technical performance and a 35% reduction in overall costs.
Multiple wells were being drilled to over 3,000m TVD / 4,100m MD with bottom-hole temperatures of 100°C. The original fluid system caused:
- High clay dispersion and foaming
- Excessive rheology and solids loading
- Bit balling and stuck pipe events
- Low ROP, high dilution rates, and large waste volumes
With chlorides prohibited in the region, the operator needed a non-chloride, cost-effective drilling solution that would improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
A Potassium Carbonate / Pure-Bore® system was designed to overcome all previous issues. Its key advantages included:
